1,697 miles of coastline, 5,000 years of history, and home to 22,000 people – welcome to Shetland and some great opportunities to make a real impact.

From stunning seascapes to flower filled meadows, Shetland's landscape is as welcoming and diverse as the communities we serve.

Situated just 400 miles south of the Arctic Circle, Shetland enjoys long, light summer nights and winter skies filled with the beauty of the northern lights. And, while storms can make for dramatic weather, we often enjoy surprisingly mild winters.

We have a strong history of welcoming people and cultures from across the globe and this is as evident today as it is from the islands' rich archaeology. Over the last 30 years, however, Shetland has undergone some major economic and social changes, which we're committed to managing.

Some of the issues you'd face here are the same as you would expect to find within any local authority, as are the rewards. If you're ready for the unique challenges on offer, we're ready to welcome you aboard.
