The successful candidate will assist staff & authorised visitors to gain access to Assynt House and to assist in securing the premises, to maintain records of persons therein at any given time and to ensure that security related systems such as CCTV, access control, visitor passes and alarms (intruder/fire) are functioning properly. The post holder will act as the first point of contact for anyone entering the facility and will be responsible for communicating with them and assisting in locating and contacting the person/department being visited. The post-holder will also be responsible for performing general receptionist duties including acting as switchboard operator and answering calls from staff and members of the public. Experience of using computer software is essential and training will also be provided with regard to specific systems in use by NHS Highland.
The post holder will conduct both foot patrols as a deterrent to criminal activity & to participate in response to any incidents involving violence/aggression. This will include ensuring the doors/windows are secured and that any possible fire safety issues are dealt with promptly. The post holder will be required to work alone for much of the time and to use their own judgement and initiative.
Applicants must have a flexible approach to work, have a good educational background; have the ability to work as part of a team or on their own volition, follow instructions and possess good communication skills. The post holder must also be able to respond constructively to unpredictable situations and be able to cope under pressure. The post holder may be required to communicate directly with the police and to assist any subsequent police enquiries including testifying in the courts of law.
There is a requirement to achieve the Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout employment.
A driving licence (including manual) is desirable for this post.
Hours of work are 37hrs per week and will normally be during office hours (Monday to Friday) although there may also be an occasional need to sometimes work out with these hours and at weekends.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
