Living in Badenoch and Strathspey
If you work for a living, you might as well do it somewhere stunning and Badenoch and Strathspey - from Loch Laggan in the south-west to the beautiful town of Grantown on Spey in the north-east - fits the bill.
Near enough to the centre of the area is Aviemore, Scotland’s home of winter sports and masses of year-round outdoor activities; it serves as the gateway to the Cairngorms National Park, recognised as a spectacular and unique wilderness and a Special Area of Conservation.
Tourism is the key employer here, along with its service industries and public sector employment in local government and healthcare through Highland Council and NHS Highland.
The area is well-served by the A9, a major national trunk road and the main rail line to Inverness, where there is also an airport; don’t forget that the same transport links bringing people to the area are used by local people when they want to sample the hustle and bustle of city life.
There are secondary schools at either end of the area; Kingussie High School and Grantown Grammar School with nine primary schools.
This is an area which inspires people to visit to sample the outdoor life for its physical challenges and inspiration. Many like it so much that they stay, so Badenoch and Strathspey has some fascinating galleries and arts events. Also it has produced more Olympic athletes per head of population than anywhere else in Britain.
Wouldn’t you want to live somewhere that has its own preserved railway - the glorious 20-mile round trip along part of the original Highland Railway on the Strathspey Steam Railway from its base at Aviemore through Boat of Garten and on to Broomhill.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for this time around, be sure to save your CV so you can apply with ease when you do find the perfect opportunity in Badenoch and Strathspey.
