The purpose of this role is to enable the development, maintenance and support of the Post Office Website journeys which support Post Office customers and Postmasters. As a web developer, you will be working closely in an Agile Scrum Team to understand, translate, estimate and contribute towards the development and testing of features that are planned and scheduled for sprints. The role will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of developers, designers, and product managers to build high-quality products and features which add value for customer and colleagues.

You will Design, build, and maintain high quality, reusable and reliable code, ensure accurate technical documentation is captured and approved and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders to support the Agile delivery process.


You will Partner with delivery leads, senior developers, and product owners to ensure deliverables are met and contribute to the best possible performance, quality and responsiveness of the website and applications as you support the entire development lifecycle (concept, design, test, release and support)

What you’ll need to succeed

  • 2-3+ years’ experience developing applications in a variety of languages and frameworks including Java, JavaScript, React, HTML, SCSS / CSS, 
  • Knowledge and experience of the following technologies is essential for Web Development; JQuery, SCSS, Freemarker and YAML
  • Knowledge and experience with Magnolia CMS is desirable but not essential for Web Development
  • Experience of cloud-native micro-services and distributed systems (ideally AWS) 
  • Understand and appropriately implement the WCAG (Accessibility) principles, guidelines and success criteria implemented
  • Experience of full-stack software development principles, architecture and conventions 
  • Experience of building and maintaining eCommerce Websites
  • Strong understanding of data structures and architectures, using relational and/or non-relational database approaches with the ability to query using SQL 
  • A strong understanding of test-driven development and testing conventions 
  • Experience of developing and supporting RESTful APIs 
  • Experience and understanding of CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience of release processes and governance 
  • Experience of full-stack software development principles, architecture and conventions 
  • Experience of a wide range of SLDC methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile Scrum, Kanban, behavioural-driven development (BDD), and continuous integration
  • Understanding of IT security/risk 
  • Significant experience with documentation, workflow, and code versioning tools, such as Confluence, Jira and Git respectively. 
  • BSc degree in Computer Science, relevant field or equivalent
  • Ability to quickly learn and lead on new languages, frameworks and architectures 
  • Able to work across multiple projects/workstreams simultaneously 
  • Excellent stakeholder management 
  • Excellent analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude 
  • Confidence to discuss and present solutions to stakeholders 
  • Ability to coach junior team members 
  • Able to forward plan 
  • Able to dev test, review and sign-off code
