LOCATION: Staffin, North East Isle of Skye. SALARY: Up to £45,000 pa (DOE), plus OT paid at 1½. WORKING ARRANGEMENT: 2 wks on/2 wks off. HOLIDAY: Equivalent of 240 hrs/30 days pa (inc. public holidays). PENSION: Attractive package once probationary period has been completed. Our client, Organic Sea Harvest, is a multi-award winning salmon farming company based on the Isle of Skye. They are passionate about the health and wellbeing of their team, the health and welfare of the fish in their care and about producing the finest quality farmed salmon.

Every day is exciting and different. As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for navigation, safety, and the overall operation the work boat, and will support the Farms Manager with daily operations. Amongst other tasks, you will be responsible for: 

  • The maintenance and performance of the vessel.
  • Supporting the onshore team to ensure the vessel is complaint with the Workboat Code.
  • The operation, maintenance and servicing all equipment on board.
  • Taking care of the safety of the vessel and passengers.
  • Ensuring are compliant with maritime regulations.
  • Monitoring weather and sea conditions.
  • Responding to emergencies if they arise.

Requirements

Whilst experience of working in the aquaculture industry is an advantage it is not necessary as Organic Sea Harvest will provide all relevant training. The ideal candidate will:

  • Have the relevant Skipper qualifications.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in aquaculture production operations or similar.
  • Have a high degree of health and safety knowledge and experience.
  • Have a positive attitude with an interest in farming healthy seafood for people to enjoy.
  • Be able to demonstrate strong technical knowledge and a clear ability to be organised with a high attention to detail.
  • Take pride in a high level of fish husbandry.
  • Have a HND or above in an aquaculture related subject or similar.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job.
  • Respect others and safe working practices.
  • Have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with the team, port authorities, and other vessels.
