Role Overview:

The Sport and Physical Activity Policy Manager will play a pivotal role in developing collaboration and synergy between the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA), sportscotland, Scottish Government, relevant local authority professionals, Community Leisure UK and other Scottish sport-related bodies and agencies. This position aims to enhance the commitment to public sector sports and physical activity across Scotland by facilitating communication, coordination, and strategic alignment.

The post will help COSLA strengthen its commitment to the area by working closely with members of COSLA's various Boards, Leaders' meeting, and the Sport and Physical Activity Special Interest Group to reinforce their commitment to sports and physical wellbeing and by advocating for sustainable services, initiatives and policies that prioritise active lifestyles within local communities.

 

In this role the Policy Manager will support COSLA's governance arrangements by acting as the primary secretariat to the COSLA Sport and Physical Activity Special Interest Group (SIG). In its activities the SIG will aim to ensure that its work is informed by the rich variety of local sports activities and will aim to address access to resources, funding, and expertise. The post will also engage with COSLA's Leaders' meetings and Boards with an emphasis on cross-cutting policies that aims to underline and integrate sports and physical activity into the broader work of Local Government strategies.

 

The post will aim to build relationships by fostering stronger ties between elected members and officials of COSLA, and sportscotland, Scottish Government and its relevant agencies, the Voice of Culture and Leisure (VOCAL), Community Leisure UK as well as other national sports' bodies by facilitating dialogue, knowledge sharing, and joint planning to maximise impact. To underline this, efforts will be made to develop a shared approach to ensure consistent and coherent communications and messaging wherever possible regarding sports and physical activity.

 

The successful candidate will be familiar with the Active Scotland Outcomes Framework (ASOF) and Delivery Plan, understand and be able to promote "Sport for Life" principles. The postholder will support COSLA's representatives attending the National Leadership Group for Physical Activity and Sport, actively participate in the Development Group for Physical Activity and Sport, engage in the Estates Review, particularly concerning school facilities, and contribute insights and expertise to the Strategic Forum for Sport and Physical Activity.
