NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
A full-time, permanent post has become available within the Genetic Service for an individual qualified to SVQ3 level as a minimum, preferably with a Higher in a science subject. Although previous laboratory experience is not essential, applicants must have experience of handling samples and/or reagents and be prepared to work with blood and tissue samples including fetal material. The position would suit those wishing to start a career in Healthcare Science.
The successful applicant will work with other members of the Technical Team under the direction of Senior Practitioners and the Team Leader to carry out a broad range of testing procedures on a variety of samples referred to the Service. The successful applicants will handle patient samples and perform tasks that contribute to diagnostic reports and therefore must work in a careful and meticulous manner according to standard operating procedures.
The Regional Genetic Service is a large friendly team of Technical, Scientific and Clinical staff who provide a first-class service to patients and families from Tayside and NE Fife and elsewhere in Scotland. The Service offers modern, well-equipped facilities situated within Ninewells Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for applicants to start their career within the NHS or gain experience within a diagnostic Genetic Service.
You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
