Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our four main Scotland offices; Perth / Inverness / Aberdeen / Glasgow.

As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we have a number of HVDC Cable Engineering opportunities to join our HVDC Project Engineering team to help drive forward our projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero, including Senior Cable Engineer and Cable Engineer. These projects are comprised of state-of the-art technology, including cable systems applied in both marine and terrestrial environments. You’ll play a key part in delivering Net Zero.

The HVDC Senior/ Cable Engineer are key in driving technical excellence, quality of installation, best practice, and resolution to design risks/technical issues. The roles advertised would sit within SSEN Transmissions Offshore Project Engineering Team with a primary focus on HVDC cable systems and although specific experience with Transmission networks would be desirable, it is not necessary. We encourage candidates with a project engineering background, ideally with a HV cable engineering background in either contractor, consultancy, or client organisations within the Energy Industry to apply.

The role has the following key responsibilities:

- Support project Front End Engineering Design (FEED) activities such as options assessment, cable route development, landfall selection and risk assessment. This includes interdisciplinary working alongside various teams including environmental and land consenting, geotechnical, civil and offshore installation engineers.

- As a key member of Designer and Principal Designer teams, promote the safety-in-design ethos and discharge these CDM duties on behalf of SSE Transmission. Identification and management of geotechnical risk. Reduce risk (technical, quality, health, and safety) to the point of elimination or as low as is reasonably practicable. This includes risk identification, assessment, mitigation, communication and record keeping.

- Inform the HVDC cable system requirements for Engineering and Construction Contracts (ECCs) and supporting the tender review process as part of the technical team.

- Review and acceptance of Contractor engineering and design deliverables for compliance with Employer's requirements and legislation, including defect and change management. Supervise installation and commissioning works for compliance with Employer's requirements and legislation.

- Support and mentor junior engineers, ensuring they are adequately supported throughout traineeship.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Qualification of minimum BEng/BSc qualification level in a relevant engineering discipline.

- Technical knowledge and experience in holding key technical position(s) during development and delivery of a HVDC or HVAC transmission cable project.

- Work experience and understanding of ECC contracts and CDM regulations; particularly with respect to roles of Supervisor and Principal Designer.

- Competent awareness and working knowledge of relevant industry standards, specifications and recommendations.

- Excellent communication, time-management, and organisational skills.

- Experience and enthusiasm for giving mentorship/guidance to junior engineers and building technical excellence within the team and wider business.
