About the department:

Abrdn invests in a full range of asset classes from a number of geographies, including Edinburgh, London, Philadelphia, Boston and Singapore. In addition, the business has operations in Japan, India, China and other locations globally.  Asset classes covered include equities, bonds, money markets, fund of funds and multi asset funds.

The Modelling and Quantitative Analytics team is a key part of the Investment Team at abrdn. Modelling and Quantitative Analytics is primarily concerned with providing public markets investments teams with tools, data, analysis and analytical support to help deliver investment processes leading to investment decisions and ultimately investment performance for abrdn’s clients. The function is also expected to support the future development of abrdn’s product range, investment processes and overall investment capability.

Within Modelling and Quantitative Analytics, the Fixed Income Modelling and Quantitative Analytics sub-team is responsible for providing quantitative analysis and tools to support the needs of various Fixed Income investment desks. This includes the development, maintenance and support of in-house software platforms that drive this quantitative capability. As part of an ongoing review of systems, we are in the process of transforming these platforms to make them more robust, scalable and move away from legacy third-party data and analytics components. We’re seeking a highly motivated and talented Quantitative Developer to join our team and contribute to the development, support and evolution of the platforms.

About the role:

Working as part of the Fixed Income Modelling and Quantitative Analytics team at abrdn, the successful candidate will be responsible for taking part in requirements analysis, design, implementation, documentation, testing and support of in-house software models and end-user tools to fulfil the quantitative needs of Fixed Income portfolio managers and other stakeholders.

Incorporating security-level pricing, valuation, risk, model calibration and portfolio optimisation, the models and tools will support the sophisticated investment strategies used in abrdn’s Fixed Income business. There will be close collaboration with portfolio managers, as well as colleagues within Modelling & Quantitative Analytics and specialists within Client Solutions Group.

Key responsibilities:

  • Understand modelling and analytics requirements of the users of the in-house platforms.

  • Using software development best practices, design, implement and test appropriate quantitative models,.

  • Design, implement and test end-user analysis tools building on quantitative models.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in other teams to ensure best practice is applied, as well as the appropriate sharing of knowledge and of software components.

  • Support end users of the models and tools.

Skills and Experience:

This position is likely to be a good fit for an early career stage individual with some experience in quantitative software development for Fixed Income analysis and/or investment risk modelling. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific or technical subject.

  • Quantitative Finance: Experience in quantitative finance methods, with an emphasis on Fixed Income.

  • Software Development: Proficiency in C# and/or Python.

  • Technology: Experience with Microsoft Excel

In addition, while not essential, any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Postgraduate or professional qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. quantitative finance, computer science, data science, etc.).

  • Knowledge of liability-aware investment strategies.

  • Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) practices.

  • Experience of working with SQL databases.

  • Experience working with cloud-based architectures and REST APIs.

Finally, the succcessful candidate will be able to:

  • Deliver high-quality work to deadlines.

  • Work autonomously and solve problems independently.

  • Pick up new technical skills and knowledge quickly.

  • Communicate complex ideas in a clear, structured, and concise way.

  • Collaborate on complex projects across teams and geographies.
