We are looking for a flexible, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual to join the Cell science department predominantly working within the Pathology department at the new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The post holder will have the opportunity to join a strong team working within a modern medical laboratory located on the outskirts of Dumfries. Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary is a state-of-the-art general hospital opened in December 2017.

Previous experience within a laboratory environment and an interest in Pathology would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided.

The successful candidate will be expected to complete the Health Care Support Workers portfolio as per Scottish Government requirements and, depending on their qualifications, may also be required to complete the IBMS Level 1 portfolio. The post will require the individual to work between 8am and 5pm and some weekends where required.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
