Are you a highly motivated individual looking to start or expand your aquaculture career? We are currently looking for a  passionate and highly motivated individual to make a difference onboard the Company’s vessel, the Mowi Supporter. The vessel is based between Uist & Barra and will provide a valuable support service to the Company’s seawater sites across the Western Isles . The role is challenging, but ultimately very rewarding and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career progression opportunities.                                                   

If you are ambitious and motivated and want to work with a likeminded team, then this is the role for you. This post is offered on a full time, permanent basis. The successful candidates will be required to work a two week on/two week off rotational basis, providing an excellent work/life balance opportunity. Accommodation is provided whilst on shift.

About the job

The Deckhand role is a crucial part of the operations process and ensures that the best management of our salmon is undertaken.

  • Maintain the vessel to a high standard
  • Harvesting and passive grading
  • Inspection and maintenance of equipment and facilities around the farm
  • Monitoring and maintaining fish health, welfare and bio-security
  • Boat handling around the farm
  • General farm tasks to keep the whole operation running

Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job.

  • Experience is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided
  • You will be required to hold, or able to obtain, and retain an ML5 or ENG1 medical certificate
  •  Flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to understand the aims of the site and to support the rest of the team to achieve these
  • Respect for the need for safe working practices
  • You must be over the age of 18 due to working time regulations
  • Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? Don’t worry, we can help with the cost of lessons
